When I first started job hunting, I honestly felt like I got the short end of the stick. Or the shortest straw of the lot. I thought I had it all figured out- take a gap year, do a short course in Pathology, land a part time job there and go back to uni. Simple right? The reality was far from it.

What I didn’t know was that I was about to embark on a self discovery job hunt journey that I never anticipated. Through many twists, turns, unexpected discoveries, it literally became a faith endurance race.

As Paul Angone in his book, Allgroanup Searching For Self, Faith, and a Freaking Job so eloquently described, ‘At college graduation, they should’ve handed out spears and some sort of harpoon-like devices along with the diplomas. Twentysomethings looking for a job is [literally] like the Hunger Games.’

And I don’t disagree. Job hunting is a thankless task and keeping the constant momentum despite the never ending knock backs. Let alone keeping your sanity and smiles. Especially when people who either intentionally or unintentionally rub it in that you haven’t got it all figured out like they do.

(Quote from Paul Angone of course in 101 Secrets for Your Twenties #16).

*In hindsight, I’m kinda glad that I didn’t get it all figured out linear cycle of life in the end. Because honestly? It is the most character building and longest faith test. Where I learnt things that I would never have if I never embarked on the job hunt expedition.

Perseverance. Humility. What faith actually is. And of course forging genuine and authentic connections with the likes of Paul Angone’s Allgroanup 20something support network and Danny Rubin career aces (he taught me how to write more sharper and clearer in job apps 😉

Don’t be afraid to start your job hunt today, you won’t be alone- I promise 😉
